In Jaroslav Pelikan's discussion of the iconoclastic controversy, what are two arguments that he mentions in the defense of icons, and two arguments that he mentions in opposition to icons? [note that these are to be arguments found in the Pelikan reading, not just from the class lectures]
Part III--25 to 30 minutes (25 points)
Choose one of the following two questions and answer it with an essay:
A. What role was played by each of the first 4 ecumenical councils in establishing the orthodox Christian position on who Jesus Christ was?
B. Early Christians argued that the pagan Greek writers and thinkers, as well as the Jews, were preparing the world for the coming of Jesus Christ. Explain the methods used by early Christians to make these arguments, and give one concrete example illustrating each method as it applied to the Jews and to the pagan Greeks.
